I am writing to you to formally thank you for the excellent service that you and your team with DSL Construction provided in building the carport and outdoor space for my family. Adding onto our home and creating an outdoor living space was very important to us, and you clearly understood the importance of carrying out our desires in this custom built project and design. With a custom job, I expect close attention to detail, client/customer involvement throughout the process to insure that design plans are not being compromised. and experienced suggestions from the builder. DSL Construction met my expectations, and truly gave me the impression that you were building this, and making suggestions for the build out, as if it were soon to be your own. I can’t express enough how much we loved working with DSL. We started off with a home and garage and through changes of our garage and everything, DSL still finished on a great timeline and amazing service. Just an FYI, that was almost 9 years ago for us. DSL has a strong building knowledge and really caters to the needs of the owner. We recommend them to anyone that we know and is building.

As you know, we designed this room about four years ago and we struggled to find a contractor that we were comfortable with to complete the project. Our meetings with you during the interview and proposal stages were thorough, candid and honest, which we appreciated very much.

You helped us stay within our budget, and yet never took a shortcut on the quality of work. When there were (only a few) problems during the construction, you worked diligently and quickly to a solution. For the design changes that had to be made during the job, you were honest and fair with the change orders and allowed us to make a decision before the work resumed.

The quality of finish/detail work matches our original construction, which was very important to us when considering the eventual resale value. But we built this room to enjoy it, and it has turned out to be everything for which we hoped. I have forwarded pictures of the finished product and will send a few more when I complete the outdoor kitchen set-up.

Don, DSL’s work was of great value to us and we appreciate everything you did for us on this project. We’ll continue to forward your name as recommendations to friends looking for a general contractor.

I just wanted you to know that your work received very high marks over Thanksgiving. Everyone was so impressed. Thank you again for everything!

We had a covered patio with fans, lighting and electrical. The project exceeded our expectations, and I highly recommend DSL. The workmanship was of high quality, even adding decorative accents we hadn’t requested or thought of. A project supervisor was present supervising the work assuring quality. The subcontractors cleaned the work site each evening throughout the project, the team comunicated to assure I was satisfied and went out of their way to accommodate any special requests I had. The project began on time and was completed ahead of shedule. The whole experience was positive, and we are thrilled with our final product. We will definitely use them again and can recommend DSL without reservations.

Great people and very professional at work

Very nice. I was able to walk through the building last Wednesday and I was impressed with the quality of the workmanship.

DSL recently completed a total renovation of our large master suite. The project was extensive, including moving a small wall, adding a storage space, and replacing floorboards to sustain weight of the new tub. All of this was, of course, in addition to the “routine” upgrades consistent with a renovation—installation of new crown moulding and baseboards, installation of tile on floor and in large shower, installation of wood flooring in bedroom, entirely new fireplace mantle and tile surround, upgrade of AC vents, all new cabinetry, painting electrical work, plumbing.

Don held our hands throughout the process. Renovations can be a living nightmare if your contractor isn’t there for you when you need him/her the most. Don was there for us throughout the process, and especially when we ran into difficulty with a tile company we had chosen that was NOT there for us (this company was not one of Don’s subcontractors). When we let that company go, Don immediately found us another one and we were back on track in one day.

Every subcontractor Don brought into our home was first class—professional, efficient, trustworthy, and conscious of not leaving until they had cleaned up. Nearly all of them told us they have worked with Don for 20-25 years, and they all had nothing but praise for this work ethic and his professional relationship with them.

We have a couple more projects planned and we will call on Don again. We trust him implicitly, we respect him as a person and as a businessman, and we know he will go above and beyond the call to make sure the job is done right. He’s the best!

We were Hurricane Harveyed, flooded and rescued by boat. Never had to do anything like claim insurance for a whole house or rebuild a whole house. Thank the Good Lord for leading me to Don Long and DSL Construction and Design. Don himself met with me at my devastated home and explained in detail how the insurance worked and how his company could rebuild for me to my requirements. He is local, reliable and, as honest as the days are long (pun intended).
Over 10 months rebuilding, I got to know all his staff and workers; James was my Supervisor on the job and he was available to me night and day to answer concerns, questions and, on the job every day to make sure stuff happened and calm me down when things didn't go quite as planned; Garret in the office was right there for any questions and instant answers, and; Don himself was available to me on his cellphone. And, then, what can I say about the workers? If you need a talented carpenter and general all around handyman, there is no-one better than their Kenneth. They have the most talented cabinet makers - they made my kitchen, bathroom and assorted custom cabinets from scratch, including a built-in wine rack - and so quickly. I could go on, but, things you need to know.

In a time of post hurricane scam artists, they never asked for anything to be paid until it was completed. They never inflated their costs to match the amount that they knew my insurance was paying me. They stand solidly behind their work and are still available to me should I find any small, niggly little problem. They have actually become friends that I value.

I can only give them 5 stars, but they deserve so many more.

If they can do so much, so well, in a time of such chaos, I can only imagine what a fabulous job they would do in ordinary times. Super kudos to Don and his crew and DSL Construction and Design. They will always be my #1 to call for construction. Good job, guys!

We are very pleased with the restoration of our home after the flood caused by Hurricane Harvey done by DSL Construction and Design. From the start, owner Don Long, told us what to expect from his company. The process itself took about ten months. But, we soon discovered that this was not unusual for post hurricane repairs. At times we were very impatient, but Don kept us in the loop about what to expect next. His carpenters, Diego and Flumencio were absolutely amazing! His painters led by Aaron did a fantastic job. And from our floors to our electrical work, his staff was professional and did a great job. We love the look our our home today even more than before the flood. And we thank DSL for that!

Our home was impacted by hurricane Harvey in the form of a 60 year old pine tree that blew over and smashed our garage (including the mini van inside) and clipped the roof of the house above the kitchen. Water rained in while we struggled to catch the water in a collections of plastic bins to limit the damage. In the aftermath some friends recommended Don Long and DSL construction after working with them during the tax day flood the year before.

Don engaged early with our adjustor making sure that the insurance estimate reflected everything that would be required to make the repairs. Now that the work is complete, I can really appreciate the value that Don provided during that first couple of months. DSL was able to bring in contractors with a variety of expertise to tackle various aspects of the repairs including construction, electrical, plumbing, cabinet-making, and plumbing. The only hiccup was when the first crew showed up to do the exterior painting. They weren't doing what they were supposed to be doing. When we told Don about it, he fired them and brought in another contractor that did a much better job.

When we were trying to decide between various options for replacing the kitchen cabinets, Don provided us with an opportunity to visit another job site and see examples of his cabinet maker's work. That really helped us decide to use Don's guy, and we're really glad we did. We very happy to be able to make the changes we wanted as the new cabinets were designed. The cost on the cabinets was lower than going the Lowe's or Home Depot route.

We tracked progress in a spreadsheet as work was completed. We only paid in increments as insurance funds were released and as the work was completed. Don never asked us to pay for anything before the work was completed. The total cost of all repairs was more than $160,000 and Don provided all of the documentation required for the insurance company to release funds at each stage. He also helped us go back to the insurance company to get a supplement to cover new granite when the old granite broke during removal.

Overall, my wife and I feel that Don and DSL Construction really did great work on this project. At the end, they helped us save money in a lot of areas so that we could use that money to cover other areas where we wanted to make changes. He really did a great job coming in under the insurance estimates in a lot of areas while still ensuring that the rebuild was as good or better than what we had before.

The new garage is more structurally sound than the original. The kitchen is completely modernized and includes a lot of improvements that we had been looking to make since moving into the house a few years before.

DSL Construction really did great work for us. With very view exceptions, the contractors that worked on our project did outstanding work, and when they didn't, Don made sure that it got corrected. Don earned his fees as the general contractor and made sure that it was entirely covered by the insurance estimates.

My wife and I would recommend Don to anyone with any size of a repair project. With all the horror stories that you hear about problems with contractors after a storm, we are thankful to have been able to work with such a professional group of people as DSL Construction.
